A local mechanic began
a major phase of restoration during the first
week of January, 2005.
Materials on hand for restoration:
- Doors—Two new doors,
better than what was on the car.
- Hood and Trunk—Again
better than what I had.
- Front Floor section back
to the rear seats, some rust holes but nothing major.
- Rear floor pans and braces.
- Full passenger side quarter panel—Great find from Auto City classics. They said it was a quarter of a
car, it really was!
- Patch panels for Drivers side
with a rusted out full QTR panel as a safety net.
- New fenders—Left and
right, one is NOS found in a body shop within a mile of my house, one is
Arizona junkyard fender. I have Inner fenders, splash pans, etc for an
entire front clip to replace the existing front clip.
- Taillight housings—Replacement housings left and right.
- Rolling frame with engine
and trans mounted ready for the body.
This is the Body off frame back
from the media blaster. The original patch panels were cut in wrong, work was stopped
and everything was tacked so we could get the car out of the original shop.
- After blasting, the body was
lightly coated in PPG epoxy primer to prevent rust
- Both quarter panels are ready for
adding the replacement panels, we have quarters for left and right. The
original patch panels did more damage due to bad installation.
- The trunk floor and one inside
panel are going to be replaced due to a bad installation.
- New full front floor cut out of
another car along with the toe board and floor braces are now replaced. The
rear pans and floor braces will be reset once we get the front floor section
reset

Head on view of the front firewall, only area after
the new floor is cut is the toe board on passenger side. One small rust
through down on the lower right hand side.
Good news - Window area and gutter are in excellent shape.

Rear View - Here you can see the driver’s side
taillight housing is pulled in about a ¼” but enough to cause problems beyond
imagination.

Driver's side of front floor pan — Note the rusted
area on front post

Front floor section — Here is a good shot of the fitting
of the replacement floor, When fitted, the tunnel and the floor pans will be
replaced as a single piece. The rusted sections you see on the corner will be
repaired.

Tail pan and inner wheel housings are in good shape.
